jakartamedia.co.id – Saat ini masyarakat mulai membuka mata akan pengurangan sampah plastik dengan diselenggarakannya berbagai macam kampanye, seperti restaurant – restaurant yang tidak lagi memberikan sedotan plastik, supermarket memberlakukan kantung plastik belanjaan berbayar, lalu adanya pemberian diskon kepada konsumen yang menggunakan tumbler untuk membeli minuman dan sebagainya. Namun bagaimana dengan sampah makanan? Sudahkah kita menanggulangi sampah paling terdekat dengan hidup kita?

Masalah sampah Indonesia sudah memasuki tahap yang sangat serius, menurut data yang dilansir oleh siaran pers Kementrian Lingkungan Hidup dan Kehutanan, sampah yang dihasilkan Indonesia mencapai 175.000 ton per hari atau setara 64 juta ton pertahun. Sampah organik menjadi komposisi terbesar dalam penghasilan sampah di Indonesia, yaitu 50% dari seluruh produksi sampah. Serta berdasarkan Food Sustainability Index yang dipublikasikan oleh Barilla Center For Food and Nutrition, Indonesia adalah negara ke – 2 penyumbang sampah makanan terbesar di dunia, yakni sebanyak 300 kg/orang/tahun.

Apalagi, sebagian besar sampah yang dibuang akan berujung pada TPA (Tempat Pembuangan Akhir). Akibatnya tumpukan sampah makanan ini jika tidak diolah dengan baik akan menghasilkan gas metana yang sangat berbahaya. Gas metana inilah yang akan menciptakan pemanasan global. Dimana metana adalah salah satu gas rumah kaca utama yang 21 kali lebih berbahaya dari CO2 (karbondioksida).

Maka dari itu, ‘Zero Food Waste’ akan menjadi salah satu solusi dalam menanggulangi masalah penumpukan sampah serta pemanasan global. Mengapa? Karena Zero Food Waste merupakan konsep dimana kita akan mengurangi sampah makanan sampai nol, oleh karenanya sampah makanan yang menumpuk di TPA juga akan berkurang..

Lalu, bagaimana cara kita melakukan zero food waste? cara termudah dalam melakukan zero food waste adalah menghabiskan apa yang ada di piring kita. Kita harus mengetahui porsi makanan apa saja yang dibutuhkan oleh tubuh, jadi makanlah secukupnya, sehingga tidak ada makanan yang perlu dibuang. Selain itu, berbelanja sesuai kebutuhan juga penting. Rencanakan kebutuhan apa yang akan dibeli dalam daftar belanja. Nah, daftar belanja inilah yang akan memudahkan serta memberi arahan saat berbelanja sehingga kita tidak akan belanja yang berlebihan.

Jangan lupa selalu ‘Keep Track on Your Food’, awasi makananmu, tahu kapan makanan tersebut basi, busuk atau kadaluarsa, karena jika kita membeli banyak makanan tanpa tahu kapan makanan tersebut masih atau tidak layak konsumsi, makanan yang kita beli hanya akan berakhir di tempat sampah. Lalu, haruslah mengetahui bagaimana cara menyimpan makanan yang benar demi menghindari kebusukan dan basinya makanan.

Serta, jika adanya makanan sisa, jangan langsung dibuang! Makanan sisa yang belum basi bisa kita kreasikan ulang menjadi makanan yang baru. Selain itu, ada sayur – sayur yang bisa ditanam kembali, seperti, sereh, daun bawang, wortel, bagian pangkal atau batang yang biasa kita buang pada sayur tersebut ternyata masih bisa ditanam dan tumbuh lagi yang baru, jadi tidak ada yang terbuang dan kita juga bisa berhemat. Lalu, buah – buahan sisa, daripada dibiarkan membusuk, bisa lho dijadikan masker untuk wajah, contohnya buah pisang. Di dalam buah pisang terdapat vitamin A, B, C dan E jadi dapat mencerahkan kulit, mengurangi jerawat dan dapat mengencangkan kulit.

Melakukan Zero Food Waste tidaklah sulit, namun dibutuhkan aksi dan kekonsistenan. Jika, kaum Millennial yang sudah terkenal dalam mempengaruhi gaya hidup anak muda di zaman sekarang mencoba melaksanakan Zero Food Waste, sebesar 88 juta orang atau 33,75 persen dari total penduduk Indonesia dapat mengurangi sampah makanan. Karena perubahan baik kita sendiri yang harus memulai, serta berkontribusi dalam mengurangi masalah sampah makanan hanya dapat ditanggulangi secara bersama. Mari kita wujudkan Indonesia yang bebas sampah bersama – sama.
