Banyak orang yang menganggap bahwa perasaan kesepian itu normal,wajar dan pasti dirasakan oleh semua orang. Malah terkadang ada orang yang sengaja menyendiri untuk mengatasi masalah mereka. Tetapi tahukah kalian jika kesepian bisa berdampak pada kesehatan mental?

Berbagai kasus kesepian diberbagai negara

Sudah banyak kejadian dari berbagai negara mengenai isu loneliness. Seperti yang dirasakan oleh perempuan asal Inggris bernama Emily Fox. Emily Fox adalah seorang wanita di Inggris yang tidak mempunyai teman selama 10 tahun. Sangking lamanya dia tidak memiliki teman, setiap hari dia pergi ke supermarket hanya untuk berinteraksi dengan para pengunjung atau karyawan disana. Karena kisah Emily Fox ini, Perdana Menteri Inggris membuat “Loneliness Strategy” sebagai program untuk mengatasi permasalahan yang serupa dengan apa yang dialami Emily Fox.
Berbeda dengan Inggris, Jepang justru memfasilitasi masyarakatnya yang nyaman merasa sendiri. Seperti yang dilakukan oleh restaurant ramen bernama Ichiran ini. Dia menyediakan booth individual untuk orang yang ingin makan sendirian.

Merasa kesepian saat berada dikeramaian

Tetapi apakah isu ini juga terjadi di Indonesia? Ternyata di Indonesia isu loneliness juga sudah banyak terjadi. Seperti yang terjadi pada salah satu mahasiswi di Jakarta yang tidak ingin disebutkan namanya, yang baru menyadari bahwa dia mengalami isu loneliness. Berbeda dengan kasus Emily Fox atau orang yang merasa kesepian karena tidak memiliki teman, dia mempunyai banyak teman dan dia juga sering berada di keramaian. Justru saat dia berada di keramaian, terkadang dia malah merasa kesepian.

“Saya pernah merasa sangat kesepian saat berada di sebuah pusat perbelanjaan yang sebenarnya sangat ramai”. Dia juga mengaku pernah merasa ingin menangis tanpa sebab saat berada ditengah kerumunan orang. Awalnya, dia menganggap bahwa itu adalah sesuatu yang biasa saja. Kemudian dia merasa itu berlangsung beberapa kali dan sudah tidak wajar. Sehingga menurutnya, penyebab semua itu karena dia jarang curhat meskipun dia punya banyak teman. Semua kesedihan dan amarah yang dirasakannya hanya dipendam dan dirasakan sendiri.

Milenial sasaran empuk kesepian

Menurut survey yang dilakukan oleh The Cigna Health Insurance Company pada tahun 2018 lalu kepada lebih dari 20.000 orang dewasa di Amerika, hampir setengannya mengakui dirinya merasa kesepian (46%) dan terabaikan (47%). Tetapi generasi Z (usia 18-22 tahun) atau milenial lah yang paling merasa kesepian dalam survey ini. Mengapa demikian? Menurut terapis berlisensi Dr.Linda Mintle kepada CBN News, hal ini disebabkan oleh hubungan di sosial media tidak memberikan keuntungan seperti hubungan dengan seseorang secara tatap muka langsung.
Kebanyakan remaja bahkan orang dewasa saat ini, lebih banyak berhubungan dengan orang melalui sosial media dibandingkan bertemu dan berinteraksi tatap muka. Sehingga, kebanyakan dari mereka merasa bahwa mereka mempunyai banyak teman dan tidak akan merasa kesepian. Padahal sebenarnya teman mereka itu hanyalah sebuah gadget, dan bukan itu yang dibutuhkan oleh manusia.

Bahaya kesepian bagi kesehatan mental

Menurut penelitian, kesepian juga dapat meningkatkan tingkat kematian lebih dari hal-hal lain seperti pola makan tidak teratur, kurang olahraga, mengonsumsi alkohol, dan bahkan kesepian sama bahayanya dengan merokok berat. Sangat banyak dampak buruk dari kesepian yang tidak diketahui oleh orang. Ini dikarenakan orang hanya sibuk memerhatikan kesehatan fisiknya, tanpa sekalipun mengecek apakah kesehatan mentalnya juga bermasalah atau tidak. Terlebih di Indonesia khususnya, aksesibilitas kesehatan mental masih kalah dengan aksesibilitas kesehatan fisik. Sehingga orang Indonesia kurang teredukasi mengenai isu isu kesehatan mental dan akhirnya mereka tidak sadar bahwa mereka sudah mengalami mental illness.

Sebisa mungkin kita harus memperhatikan kesehatan mental disamping kesehatan fisik. Karena bisa jadi akibat dari gangguan kesehatan mental lebih berbahaya, bahkan akan berdampak pula pada kesehatan fisik.
